Foxtail sedge grows in wet or moist woods, especially on floodplains and at the margins of marshes. It does best in silty, clayey, or loamy soil, and full or partial shade. The dark green leaves are long and narrow, and arch to the ground. The stems grow in clusters, and produce small bristly seed heads at their tips. An interesting foliage plant for shady moist areas.
